Photo Analysis - Mr. President

1950 ... Mr. Ike!

Photos - A form of art, a way of showing things, living and/or non-living, movement or important moments that has been taken in a certain point of time. Photos are also a way of giving a message to people, to make them understand what the photo is all about, or just to give a thought about what they feel about the photo. These feelings might be positive, negative or neutral. The variables of photography affect how the photo will look like and also affect the way we feel about the photo. These variables are: Lighting(how bright or dark the photo is), Camera Angle (the photo could be taken in a square and stable shape or a rectangle, or even a slanted shape) and Proximity (how far or close you are to a subject).

This photo is showing Mr. Eisenhower, 34th president of the United States. This photo was once the cover of Life magazines. The photo above makes ME feel that the president is serious, happy and trustworthy. He's on a pose that makes him look like he does takes things serious but he is still smiling, which makes him look trustworthy. His clothes and prop made me think that he is a rich man, that he has power over people like me. He looks towards the viewers which made him look a bit scary. He looks a bit macho but more on a business kind of macho.

For me, the photo is effective at making people feel something towards the subject. From the looks, the posture, props, clothing, eye contact, background and facial expression.

The Next Level.

"Kia - Taking things to the next level." Exactly WHERE is the next level??

Techniques of persuasion used: Celebrity, Wealth,Macho,Nature

The ad is about the new car that Kia just released. It also shows Blake Griffin doing an unbelievable dunk. The most effective techniques of persuasion used was CELEBRITY. At first, I thought the ad was about Blake dunking over a car again. It didn't amaze me. Because first if all, it just shows Blake doing a impossible dunk and not much more details about the car.

These persuading techniques were used so that people would buy a car because Blake was with it in the commercial. Maybe he does trust the brand but that doesn't mean you buy it to. That's why people buy these kinds of product; celebrities have it and people think it could be wormy their time.

I suggest those who are reading and watching the ad to just laugh at the commercial. The advertisement isn't persuading enough. The way Kia put Blake Griffin was a smart but cheap technique to persuade people.

Persuasion.

Persuade - to move by argument, entreaty, or expostulation to a belief, position, or course of action. It means to force someone to do something or agree with one's opinion(s).

Persuasions are used in various ways like talking or in an article. But nowadays, techniques of persuasion are use in media literacy, very often in commercials and/or advertisements. Here are some of the techniques which are used in ads/commercials:

Humor
Macho
Family
Friends
Fun
Cartoon
Sexy
Nature
Celebrity
Wealth's

Often these days, we have commercials that persuades us to buy the product. Few of those ads may be true but some of them just put silly or sexy scenes just for people to think it's good to buy the product. Ads do that more often now so that people will think that the product is worth it. But some people these days don't think twice if they DO NEED the product or it could just be just A WASTE OF MONEY.

Helping People: The United Nations

The world today is in crisis. Anarchy rules over countries; civil wars, riots, governmental and financial problems. Some parts of the world are in the state of calamity. People tend to break rules while others rebel for freedom. These problems affect our daily lives and possibly no one in this world hasn't or haven't been affected by these problems. We, our generation try to maintain peace through technology, media literacy, charity for a cause, laws and treaties but when all else fails, one organization stands out to help us maintain peace and order rough out the world. Is organization is called the United Nations.

According to Cyberschoolbus, "The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945. The purpose of the United Nations is to bring all nations of the world together to work for peace and development, based on the principles of justice, human dignity and the well-being of all people. It affords the opportunity for countries to balance global interdependence and national interests when addressing international problems." "The name United Nations was devised by United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was first used in the "Declaration by United Nations" of 1 January 1942, during the Second World War, when representatives of 26 nations pledged their Governments to continue fighting together against the Axis Powers." (http://www.un.org/Overview/origin.html)

To summmarize the whole thing; the United Nations tries to maintain order within countries. the organization help countries that are in famine, calamity and/or poverty. UN also help leaders, sovereigns and co-partners in UN to keep peace in their country and their neighboring countries. Through the help of the United Nations, the world may still have a better chance of living with no war, no governmental problems and no more suffering.

Gotta Catch 'em all!

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/10/pokemon-feature/RBI

Pokémon? Isn’t that so 10 years ago?

Games like Super Mario Bros., Bomberman and other old time hit games might not be familiar to some people, but not Pokémon. In its various incarnations as a cartoon, Nintendo game and trading cards, the franchise has maintained its popularity. By some measures, it’s bigger than ever: The latest games, Pokémon Black and White, were the first to sell more than 1 million units in their first day of availability in the United States when Nintendo launched them this March. In Japan, the games sold 2.6 million copies in the first two days.

Before, Pokemon was about a boy who was on a journey to catch all the Pokemon he sees. Now, Pokemon has trading card games, game console games, movies, TV episodes; and even clothing franchises. Pokemon became a big hit worldwide. But it doesn't stop there. The Pokemon franchise is creating new ways for people who wants to battle others worldwide. It's a very good online community than any other Nintendo game can boast.

A lot of games and game consoles get pretty famous once in a while. But Pokemon never gets old. It always has this new creatures or new features that makes the game a lot better than the previous versions. Junichi Masuda, one of the company's first hires, said in an interview with Wired.com earlier this year: “With Pokémon, what we concentrate on is that the gameplay is really solid — like a sport, like soccer or basketball; It’s a game that people can play on and on, and not get bored of it.”

Blogs and their purposes.

Blogs get more popular everyday. And through blogs, we see the different uses of it. I have a blog and I use it to share my creative ideas, listen to music and meet new people. Others use blogs whether to entertain, to inform or to persuade people. I put some sites on the given purposes to show how one purpose differ from another.

To Inform : When you are writing to inform, you are presenting information that the reader is interested in. This writing is purely for the sake of information and should avoid bias, opinions, or subjectivity. One site is about celebrity news and opinions about the news. It informs people about recent activities celebrities do.

To Persuade: When writing to persuade the writer tries to convince the reader of a fact or
point of view. Persuasive writing can include reasons that support an idea, or information presented with bias to convince the reader of the writer's view. The site opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/ gives us the freedom of speech; to make an opinion on local news and/or articles throughout the world.

To Entertain: Writing that is designed to entertain creates an emotion in the reader.
Entertaining writing is usually funny, interesting, weird, or even sometimes sad. The text is
created so that the reader will enjoy what is written. These sites show latest release of video games and movies online. It it also shows the description of the games/movies.
